    Tulip Guerilla Gardening

Today is the International Tulip Guerilla Gardening Day according to guerillagardening.org. It’s a shame my bulbs have not come yet, but then again what guerilla gardener would be that concerned with following the correct day… Tänään vietetään kansainvälistä Tulip Guerilla Gardening-päivää guerillagardening.org:in mukaan.

    A Clematis Highlight

It’s been 12 (almost 13) posts since my last clematis post.. so maybe I can still do one 🙂 I’m a member of the Finnish Clematis Society (really a subgroup of the Dendrology Society) and one of the fun things about that is visiting other people’s gardens. The Society visited my garden about 4 years ago and this summer we visited a lovely lady known as “Negus” at the Finnish gardening forum Klorofylli.com (the nick is after her favorite clematis). She has a wonderful collection and the clematis were blooming profusely. In the first picture: ‘Entel’ I suspect  on the left / vasemmalla luulisin / till vänster tror jag – ensimmäisessä…

    A Day Trip To Estonia

A wonderful lady over at Klorofylli.com, a gardening site with an active forum of Finnish gardening enthusiast, decided to arrange a day trip to Estonia a few weeks ago. I was very happy to join the trip. Our main stop was Nurga Puukool, a really good nursery with an adjoining arboretum that was hosting a small fair for smaller nurseries. We went there by a large bus, took the first morning ferry and started out with the wonderfully picturesque Nomme market. From there on, we continued to Nurga Puukool which is a really good nursery, especially for pine enthusiasts, otherwise it is really good but not exceptional. The adjoining Ellamaa…

    Plenty of Peonies

My two days at the peony festival in Luoyang are now behind me. The weather was splendid and the peonies were flowering their hearts out. The festival is a big deal for the Chinese, but there were not a lot of Westerners besides our group. This meant that we were asked to pose in plenty of pictures with the Chinese; overall the Chinese were very interested in taking pictures of each other and occasionally less of the flowers themselves. I, and my friends on the other hand have by now amassed around a thousand pictures each, and most of them are of peonies.. So, these are just a few I picked…

    Fair Gardening

An hour before the fair opened. Noin tuntia ennen messujen avaamista. Ungefär en time före mässan öppnade. This week has been super busy, but also quite exciting. There was quite a bit of planning beforehand, but the real effort has been from Tuesday to Wednesday in building a 68 m² fair garden for my employer Kekkilä. Kekkilä has some splendid products that provided the building blocks, but then it was up to me, Ulrika Tuomainen and Juhani Tapiovaara to plan the stand and build it in 30 hours over two days. Luckily we had help from other builders at Helsingin Projektitoteutus and two other competent gardeners that work for Kekkilä…
