    Fair Confessions

I wasn’t going to attend the fair last weekend at all, but since my brother and his wife were going to the house building part of the fair I tagged along anyway. As expected there wasn’t a lot to see, but there were a few minor nice things. Some of the vendors that usually come to the shows were there, but some were missing. A lot of them were selling stuff that isn’t really suitable for the Finnish climate, but the kind of stuff I buy anyway, since I’m fortunate enough to have my wonderful greenhouse and I kind of know what I’m doing – at least most of the time… En…

    Bulb Relief

I’m up to my neck in pitches, bureaucracies and php-something or others that leave me scratching my head, so it really felt like a mini-vacation to take a look at some garden pictures and order a few more bulbs. I’m ordering more of the same and getting a few novelties, all from Verberghe (eurobulb.nl) that would be quite affordable, but still costs a bit when you order up to 50 of the same sort 😉 I can’t live without my Phalaris arundinacea ‘Picta’ and ‘White Triumphator’ tulips, so even though I still have some I’m stocking up just in case. The narcissi are old favorites as well, except ‘Stainless’ that…

    A Day Trip To Estonia

A wonderful lady over at Klorofylli.com, a gardening site with an active forum of Finnish gardening enthusiast, decided to arrange a day trip to Estonia a few weeks ago. I was very happy to join the trip. Our main stop was Nurga Puukool, a really good nursery with an adjoining arboretum that was hosting a small fair for smaller nurseries. We went there by a large bus, took the first morning ferry and started out with the wonderfully picturesque Nomme market. From there on, we continued to Nurga Puukool which is a really good nursery, especially for pine enthusiasts, otherwise it is really good but not exceptional. The adjoining Ellamaa…

    Fair Loot

One of the main reasons for visiting a garden fair is always the potential loot. Pictured here are two newly repotted geraniums, Pelargonium sidoides and P.’Minstrel Boy’. Both dark red. En av det viktigaste grejerna med trädgårdsmässor är ju givetvis bytet: här syns två nyplanterade småplantor av Pelargonium sidoides och en av två P. ’Minstrel Boy’. Puutarhamessujen vierailuihin on olemassa muutama tärkeä syy ja yksi niistä on ehdottomasti saalistaminen. Yllä pikkutaimina hankitut Pelargonium sidoides  (2 kpl) ja P. ’Minstrel Boy’. Fuchsias: 12 all in all, 2 each of 6 different varieties. Mostly with fairly small flowers. Det ska bli ett fuchsiaår för min del: 12 sticklingar (2 st av 6 olika sorter)…
