Remembering Last Spring

ErythroniumdenscanisAlbum

It’s been a while since my last post. Somehow the whole gardening season went by and ending an evening in front of the computer never seemed that interesting.

But now that it is the darkest of November, perhaps a look back at the spring blooms would be nice? Seen above is the dog tooth lily that I once found at the bottom of my grandmother’s garden. It is probably a white version of Erythronium dens-canis.

Another novelty (with one winter behind it) was the interesting form of a wood anemone that I bought from a plant market at Annala in Helsinki. Anemone nemorosa ‘Viridiformis’, above.

I was glad to see that my Japanese Wood Poppy (Glaucidium palmatum ‘Album’, seen above) also seemed to be doing well. It is not yet as big as it should be one day, but it already had quite a few flowers.

Primuladouble

I’ve planted a lot of primroses in my new border and this double beauty seemed to be doing well. By the end of the summer I was actually dividing some of the primroses that I had planted just a year before. They were really thriving in the fertile soil of my new border. Thanks Kekkilä 😉

Now that I have a new border especially for woodland plants I got a bit greedy at an Estonian plant market and bought, I think three new Arisaemas. The A. candidissimum did not make it through the winter, but this Jack-in-the-Pulpit Arisaema triphyllum grows happily!

I'am a marketing and gardening professional and I plan to blog about garden photography (with an amateur’s perspective on it), gardens, plants, most things even vaguely garden related and garden trips around the world.
