    Oops, I’m on Video

I can’t seem to embed this, but on the magazine Koti ja Keittiös homepage, I’m talking about growing herbs and vegetables (in Finnish) on balconies and in small places. My part starts at 2:19. Hyötyviljely on kesän hitti – Edit: THE VIDEO CAN NO LONGER BE SEEN En saa tätä video sisennettyä tänne, mutta Koti ja Keittiön saitilla puhun yrttien ja vihannesten vilejystä parvekkeilla ja pienissä paikoissa. Osuuteni alkaa 2:19. Taisin ihan oikeasti välttyä “niinkun”-ilmaisuilta, tai sitten videota on vain leikattu hyvin 😉 Hyötyviljely on kesän hitti – Edit: VIDEO EI OLE ENÄÄ NÄHTÄVISSÄ Jag lyckas inte lägga in videon här, men på tidningen Koti ja Keittiös hemsida talar jag om odling på balkong och i…

    Until Spring Gets Here

There are very few signs of spring here, so this is to ease the wait. The video above introduced Kekkilä’s (Hasselfors Garden’s in Sweden)  Home & Garden products in 2010 and was shot in my garden in 2009.

    Waiting for the Growing Season

I have on today’s agenda to talk about the joys of kitchen gardening and organic growing with members of the media. That is now hardship for me since it is something I really enjoy. I’ve learned to “grow my own” mostly with my mother (pictured transplanting lettuce seedlings) and gardening school of course helped a bit.. Still, I share a kitchen garden with my mother (it is situated between our gardens) and it is with her that we browse the vegetable section of Graines Baumaux’s catalogue while our mouths are watering , and imagine what type of wonderful broccoli or tasty Asian veggies that we are going to try that…

    The First Thing to Sow

Even though some of the snow piles are more than 2 meter high, an optimistic gardener can still imagine what’s going to flower and grow during the coming summer. For most of us, me included this year, the first thing on the agenda are the globe artichokes. They aren’t hard to get to germinate; the only thing with them is then to repot them into fairly large, or at least deep, pots for further cultivation shortly after they’ve germinated. Globe artichokes have a pole root and need a deep pot with good compost in order to grow fast enough and large enough to produce crop the first year. This is…
